President Murmu Urges Unity on Eve of 77th Republic Day

77th Republic Day

On the eve of India’s 77th Republic Day, President Draupadi Murmu called upon citizens to uphold unity, constitutional values, and democratic spirit, describing the Constitution as the enduring foundation of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.

In her traditional address to the nation, President Murmu reflected on India’s constitutional journey and paid tribute to the architects of the Republic, particularly Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, whose contributions, she said, continue to guide the nation’s democratic framework.

Constitution as the Pillar of Democracy

President Murmu emphasized that the Indian Constitution is not merely a legal document but a living guide that ensures dignity, rights, and opportunities for all citizens. She noted that its principles have enabled India to remain resilient amid global and domestic challenges.

Honouring the sacrifices of freedom fighters, she said their vision laid the groundwork for a sovereign, inclusive, and progressive India.

Salute to Armed Forces and Self-Reliant Defence

The President also praised the Indian Armed Forces, highlighting recent military achievements, including Operation Sindoor, which she said demonstrated the strength of India’s growing self-reliant defence capabilities.

She underlined the importance of indigenous defence production, stating that technological advancement and strategic preparedness are key to safeguarding national sovereignty.

Focus on Women’s Empowerment and Democratic Participation

President Murmu drew attention to the progress made in women’s empowerment, noting increased participation of women across governance, defence, science, and entrepreneurship.

She also referenced National Voters’ Day, observed on January 25, encouraging citizens—especially first-time voters—to actively engage in the democratic process and strengthen the nation through informed participation.

Cultural Milestones and National Pride

The President highlighted upcoming national and cultural milestones, including events commemorating the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram”, celebrating the song’s historic role in India’s freedom movement and its enduring emotional significance.

Republic Day celebrations on Sunday will feature a grand parade at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, showcasing India’s military strength, cultural diversity, and technological progress.

For the first time, the parade will be attended by dual chief guests from the European Union, marking a significant moment in India–EU diplomatic relations.
